Vinyl Flooring

Gainesville, VA Vinyl Flooring Installation Experts

Vinyl flooring is becoming increasingly popular among homeowners. This is most likely because of the special benefits that vinyl flooring provides. Installing vinyl sheet flooring is easy to have done.  Equally easily maintained, this long lasting flooring provides a comfortable surface to walk on.

But the question is, is vinyl flooring right for you? In order to decide, consider these important factors below.

What is Vinyl Flooring?

Vinyl flooring is constructed from a material called PVC - polyvinyl chloride plastic. PVC is formed into thin layers and usually sold in either flexible sheets or square tiles. Each piece of vinyl is printed with a visual layer depicting hardwood, stone or other design. Standard vinyl has a thin backing layer of felt or fiberglass under the printed layer. Vinyl is quite durable, affordable, and able to withstand moisture and heavy foot traffic.

What is the difference between Standard Vinyl Flooring and Luxury Vinyl Plank?

Both vinyl floors are primarily made up of the same material: vinyl. They also are comprised of the same 4 layers. But Luxury vinyl is made with a greater amount of material; almost 5 times as thick! Traditional vinyl floors are generally 1mm thick. Luxury vinyl floors are about 5mm thick. Because of this difference, Luxury vinyl is considered more durable but standard vinyl is more affordable. While Luxury vinyl gives a more realistic appearance to wood grain looks, standard vinyl can offer a more cohesive look with patterns that repeat. Standard vinyl also outperforms when it comes to moisture resistance since there are no seams for water to seep into. Both types are equally easy to care for and keep clean.

Types of Vinyl Flooring

Vinyl Sheets

Vinyl flooring is made in 2 types—sheet flooring and tile flooring. Sheet Vinyl flooring are sheets of either 6 or 12 feet in width. They are more water resistant than other types of flooring - even vinyl tiles -  since there are fewer seams for water to sink into. Sheet vinyl also offers more design options.

Vinyl Tile

Vinyl tile flooring is manufactured in tile sizes that are 9 or 12 inch square. The tiles replicate the look of ceramic tile but are more economical. They are not as resistant to moisture as vinyl sheets, but if damaged, all it takes it to fix it is the replacement of the damaged tile rather than the whole floor.

Vinyl Floors for Bathrooms

Sheet Vinyl Flooring is a great option for bathrooms because it can withstand water leaks and humid conditions better than hardwood, laminate, or luxury vinyl plank. It is also warmer, softer, and gentler to walk on than ceramic, stone, or marble flooring. If you want the look of wood or ceramic floors without the hassle and downsides of those options, waterproof vinyl flooring could be the perfect fit for your bathroom!

Vinyl Floors for Kitchens

Installing Vinyl flooring in your kitchen is an ideal choice for many homeowners. It performs well under the demands of the kitchen. It is stain-resistant, water-resistant, and exceptionally easy to clean. The softness of vinyl compared to tile flooring means dropped dishes are less likely to shatter. It is also more comfortable to stand on for prolonged periods such as for cooking or washing dishes; plus you can still have the look of tile.
